Is Healing in the Atonement? Part Two | Pastor William Bedsole

We established the fact last week that Jesus died for our sins. Most everyone will agree with that fact. However, the Bible also says that He paid for our sicknesses and diseases; at the same exact time. Everything Jesus did for us, He did as our substitute. He paid the sin price for me. Yet when it comes to sickness, people think if they are sick they are suffering for the Lord. Well, there may be some suffering involved BUT IT IS NEVER FOR THE LORD’S sake. Jesus took our sicknesses and carried our pains. We must understand this fact and receive healing in our bodies, just like we would receive forgiveness of sins in our heart.

In the mind of God, He took care of the sickness problem at the same exact time as He took care of the sin problem. Neither is hard for Him. Even in the ministry of Jesus, we see forgiveness and healing together. In Mark 2:1-12, we see a man who received his healing after he is let down through the roof by four friends. When the scribes sitting by are puzzled, Jesus said “Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?” (Mark 2:9) To Jesus, one is not harder than the other. In fact, both were accomplished at the same time.

We see that in 1 Peter 2:24, “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.” When you read Isaiah 53, Isaiah is prophesying of the coming Christ. But Peter, in 1 Peter 2:24 is looking back saying “By whose stripes ye were healed.” Not “going to be”, but were. It is an accomplished fact. The only thing we have to do is make sure that it is settled in our hearts. No sickness is too hard for God. “Whether is easier to say?” To Him healing a body is as easy as saying “Thy sins are forgiven.” The only determining factor is our faith. What do we believe?

So settle the issue once and for all. He paid for my sins. He paid for the healing of my body. He was my substitute and if He took my diseases and pains, then there’s no need for me to have them too. I receive all that He did for me.
